Things to do in Lake Garda

There are loads of things to do in Lake Garda! Check out the most popular..

Visit Il Vittoriale: the bizarre villa and gardens of poet and controversial personality of Italian literature, Gabriele D'Annunzio,  The house remains exactly the same as the day he died and is full of art works and collections of all manner of odd but interesting pieces. Check out A Bavarian Sojourn blog - Il Vittoriale

Andre Heller Botanical Garden: Formerly known as the Giardino Hruska Botanico, the gardens were made by the dentist and naturalist in 1901.  Located in Gardon Riviera these gardens are a haven of peace, with colour, humour and wonderful plants around every corner.  Not to be missed!

Take the rotating cablecar to the Monte Baldo summit:  departing from Malcesine the cable car takes you to the top of the Monte Baldo Mountain. From here wonderful views can be seen of the lake and surrounding areas.  Many paths and hiking routes wind around the summit and its also possible to bring your mountain bike!  After a visit to the summit take a lake boat across to Limone.  Here is some very cool shopping and eating!

Amusements and Theme parks: Approximatley 50 minutes from Gardone Riviera you can find Italy's largest theme park, Gardaland!.  Close by is also Caneva World, which includes Movieland and a waterpark.  Both a fun day out for all the kids in the family!

A day in Verona: A day trip to the romantic and historic city of Verona is also a must.  Approximatley 1 hour from Gardone will find you visiting Juliets Balcony, Piazza Bra and probably the most impressive sight - the huge Roman amphitheatre Arena.

Parco Termale del Garda is a unique natural spa of 13 acres surrounded by rare plants and trees with thermal lakes, swimming pools, a wellness centre and a fitness facility. In the main lake and in the swimming pool the temperature of the thermal water is set at approximately 33° C and in the special pools (old tubs) temperature reaches 37°/39° C. In the second lake the water temperature is around 28°.  This makes a visit here possible any time of the year.  Great for the kids and adults alike.

On the Lake

Lake Garda offers a huge range of water sports, which include kite surfing, sailing, jet skiiing, diving and snorkling and windsurfing.  Schools and centres can be found at most major towns around the lake.

Boat trips are one of the most popular attractions for visitors to Lake Garda.  Ferry boats cross the lake stopping at most major towns for a short visit.  A perfect day out for the whole family and a great way to see the other attractions around the lake.  Click here for information and timetables.

A lovely half day trip is also recommended to the Isola del Garda - a small island set only a 20 minute boat ride from Gardone Riviera.  Discover the rich history of the Borghese family, the beautiful villa and gardens and also have time for a glass of prosecco on the imposing terrace with wonderful views around the lake.  Boat times and prices can be found here.

Beaches and Lidos

With over 45km of beaches to choose from, you are never far away from the calm waters of the lake.  Perfect swimming conditions await you in the warm waters which are ideal for all ages.  It must be noted that most of the beaches are made of shingle and in places charges are applied for the use of umbrellas and sunbeds.

Walking, hiking and mountain biking

The Valtenesi, the west side of the lake is particularly suited for walking and hiking with many trails taking in waterside stolls to more challenging rugged hiking.   There are many walks around Le Begonvilles so dont forget your hiking shoes!

It is possible to hire mountain bikes, and The Valtenesi region (western shores of Lake Garda) has some spectular landscapes for mountain bikers.  Check out the lovelakegarda blog.

As new delicious restaurants are being discovered by our guests every year we suggest you check out our Garda Holidays blog for the "best restaurants" around the area
